“We just have a difference of opinion” – remember that?\u00a0 We heard that a lot during the pandemic, usually from someone that is talking out of their ass and comparing their opinion<\/em> to something stated by a doctor, scientist, researcher, or in a published article.<\/p>\n

This other person is often comparatively uneducated, and inexperienced with the topic at hand.\u00a0\u00a0Sure, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but no one is entitled to have their opinions valued the same as anyone else’s, or even heard<\/em> for that matter.<\/p>\n

(Remember: Freedom of Speech<\/em> does not imply the Right to be Heard<\/em> – no such right exists<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

Yeah… no<\/em><\/strong>, that is not a difference of opinion<\/em>.\u00a0 A difference of opinion requires that the opinions have the same weight or gravitas<\/em>.\u00a0 In order for that to happen, the parties involved have to be peers<\/em>, or at least pretty damn close to it.\u00a0 If not, then it is not a difference of opinion – that is just the dumb opinion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For example:<\/p>\n

Rando<\/strong>: The PCR tests cannot tell the difference between COVID-19 and the common cold!<\/span><\/p>\n

Scientist<\/strong>: Um, we can use RT-PCR tests to not just detect SARS-CoV-2<\/em>, but we can even detect specific variants<\/em> in the sample.\u00a0 Where did you read…<\/span><\/p>\n

Rando<\/strong>: Well, we just have a difference of opinion, I guess! Lol<\/span><\/p>\n
